About TheBIGWiki.com

TheBIGWiki.com was started by Tim Laubacher and Marc Goodin, two entrepreneurs from Tolland County Connecticut, in order to create an inexpensive, easy to use, dynamic platform for an online community of business owners.

About Marc Goodin

About 27 years ago, armed with an engineering degree from Colorado State University and a new bride, Marc started his journey in the business world. For the next several years he learned the engineering business working from California to Connecticut. Marc was always intrigued with the idea of owning a business. He even helped put himself through college buying and selling silver coins during the silver boom of the late 70’s. While working for various engineering companies marc started his own real estate business, buying, repairing and renting residential properties.

Presently Marc owns a civil engineering company, two self storage companies, and several rental properties. By understanding trends and subtle signals Marc has always found business opportunities.

Marc’s wife Lori continues to be a big part of their success.  He always says he would have not made it through college (she worked & paid their bills when he was in college) or been successful without her understanding of life.  They have a son and a daughter in college.

Watching their kids grow up using the internet, first as a information resource and then a social resource, along with their business backgrounds, they realized there was a need for a new type of business web community. A community that would combine all these ideas and help entrepaneures start a new business or expand an existing one.

When not working Marc enjoys fishing, camping and family time. He thought he was in heaven this summer, camping by the river with his family. Did you know that even campgrounds are wifi now?

About Tim Laubacher

Tim was given his first computer when he was 13. It didn't have a way of saving programs, so whatever you programmed was lost as soon as you shut off the computer! He soon graduated to a Commadore 64 with a floppy drive and 300 baud modem. This allowed Tim to access BBSs (Bulliten Board Systems) where he met other like-minded "kids", most of whom Tim is still good friends with.

Tim's other passion is business management. Many years of retail management led to a position at a software development company, AMS Services. At AMS Tim worked on projects that helped AMS move into the Internet age. First in automating the delivery of their software, and then in web-based insurance rating applications. Tim continued his insurance automation career at Duck Creek Technologies, where he was a Senior Implementation Specialist. Basically Tim's role was to handle technical sales and communications between the technical folks and business folks.

Tim loved his career, but traveling and being away from his family soon got to be too much. Tim's wife, Debbie, also worked at AMS and Duck Creek. Tim, Debbie and Tim's friend, Kevin McCluskey, partnered to form Laubacher Multimedia, Inc. and MyWebDept.com, a web site design, development, and marketing company based in South Windsor, Connecticut. Having his own business has allowed Tim to do what he loves, while still spending lots of time with him family. They enjoy scouting, boating, and other outdoor activities.

Tim is a Cubmaster for his son's cub scout pack, a AMC hike leader, the president of his BNI chapter, and a member of four chambers of commerce.

The Team of Tim and Marc

They first met when Tim's company (www.mywebdept.com) designed the web site for one of Marc's self storage business (www.mansfieldselfstorage.com). Not long after Tim was designing a second web site for Marc when they started to discuss how the web has become so convoluted with so much stuff (junk), how hard it is to find specific information and so costly to get a business started, even a web based business without the brick & mortar. That's when they decided to help people with their business by developing a wiki based site where for the cost of a pair of shoes people could have their own web page to launch or expand their own business. And TheBIGWiki.com was born.
