Cruising
Connecticut combines an eclectic selection of places to visit with the
fine art of picnicking. From hunting spring wildflowers to wine tasting
— from hiking and biking on miles of trails to tubing and kayaking on
our waterways — from city walking tour to country drives — from old
homesteads to unique museums. And, who would think of picnicking in the
middle of a shopping trip or at the theater! |

Testimonial:
“You
may know that Connecticut has a Clocktower Museum, but did you know we
have one because two packrat brothers couldn’t stop collecting, so they
started buying museums in which to house their stuff? And you may know
that the state is loaded with nice little picnic spots, but did you
know how to find them? Connecticut is full of such little gems, and Jan
Mann has gone out to find them. Plus, she’s sweetened the pot with some
quick though tasty recipes. Now, why didn’t I think of that?”
Susan Campbell, Columnist, The Hartford
Courant,
Author of Connecticut Curiosities.

WHAT'S IN OUR PICNIC BASKET?
Cruising Connecticut recipes were chosen based on their versatility,
great taste, ease of preparation and ingredients. The final test was
how transportable each recipe is, based on the accessibility of the
picnic facilities.
Several recipes were contributed from chefs and other area
professionals. The remaining recipes came from my own picnic recipe
collection or from the files of relatives and friends; in some cases
they were created especially for Cruising Connecticut.
All recipes—from beverages,
breads, finger foods, and sides, to sandwiches, soup, salads, entrees
and desserts, are accompanied by additional menu items designed for each distinctive picnic. |
