SOPA - Stop Online Piracy Act

The “Stop Online Piracy Act (H.R. 3261),” was introduced by a bipartisan group of lawmakers on the Judiciary Committee.  It would allow the FBI to seek injunctions against foreign Web sites that steal music, films, software and other intellectual property created by U.S. firms.

 

Great Blackout of 2012
On January, 18, 2012, thousands of internet sites took part in a "blackout" protest against SOPA and PIPA (Protect Intellectual Property Act) anti-piracy laws being discussed by US lawmakers.

The Wikipedia encyclopedia and blogging service WordPress are among the highest profile pages to remove material1.  Google is showing solidarity by placing a black box over its logo when US-based users visit its site.
